Ethel Pettaway

Ethel Pettaway, a beloved mother, grandmother, was called home on January 14, 2025, at the age of 88, in Toledo, Ohio. Born on May 31, 1936, in the town of Gordon, Georgia, Ethel graced this world with her warmth and compassion.

 A woman of many passions, Ethel found joy in simple pleasures. She had a particular fondness for engaging in lively games of bingo. Her adventurous spirit extended to race tracks and fishing trips, where she cherished the great outdoors. Additionally, Ethel's creative zest was reflected in her love for crocheting and solving puzzles, either crossword or jigsaw puzzles.

 Ethel’s family was paramount in her life, providing her with immense joy and purpose. She is survived by her cherished children, Arlisa King, Willie J. Pettaway, MSA (Dr. Glenda Pettaway, MD), and Jean Jackson. The legacy of her nurturing spirit is perpetuated through her five granddaughters and six grandsons, along with a multitude of great-grandchildren—22 in total, along with seven great-great-grandchildren, all of whom adored her. Ethel also shared a close bond with her sister, Joanne Coats emphasizing the strength and unity of her family ties.

 Ethel's departure is preceded by the loss of her beloved parents, Rufus and Cora Lee (Burney) Curtis, her devoted husband, Willie Pettaway Sr., her son-in-law, Shawn King and her three brothers and two sisters. Each of these losses was deeply felt, yet Ethel remained a pillar of strength and love for her family.

 Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation to be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, located at 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd, Toledo, Ohio, on January 27, 2025, from 10:00 AM until the funeral service at 11:00 AM. Following this the burial will take place at Restlawn Memorial Park.
