Esther E. Murphy

May 1, 1937 — July 14, 2022

Esther E. Murphy, born May 1, 1937, in Indiana County, Pennsylvania, to Tillie M. (nee Davis) Waltemire and Wellington "Jack" Cameron, fell asleep in death July 14, 2022, at the age of 85, at home in Oregon, Ohio, with her daughter at her side.

Esther was raised by her mother in Coral and Indiana, Pennsylvania, where she and her brother would sled the hills until midnight, swing on grapevines over a rock quarry, and catch and play with birds and chipmunks. This athletic tomboy who was adventurous and competitive would develop into a natural green-eyed beauty with a quiet demeanor and dignified presence.

She married in 1955 in Pennsylvania and she and her husband moved to Toledo, Ohio, where they raised 3 sons and 2 daughters.

She first heard God's personal name Jehovah as a child while listening to a radio program. In 1955, Esther was able to fulfill the spiritual need she had from childhood when she began a thorough study of the Bible. She made her dedication to serve God and was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1962.
She was a keen student of the Bible throughout her life, enjoyed Bible prophecy, and regularly shared what she learned in the volunteer ministry. She looked forward to the future fulfillment of God's Kingdom ruling over a paradise earth, Revelation 21:3, 4. She was a member of the Northwood Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.

She spent 12 years as an attentive caregiver to her mother. She was an avid walker, beautified the neighborhood with her gardens, was a seamstress, made the best cinnamon rolls, bread, and lemon meringue pie, was a quiet observer of creation, and had a clever mind for problem-solving. For the last 12 years she lived with her two daughters and son-in-law who worked side by side as a team to ensure that not only was she physically cared for but that she felt loved, safe, and was able to maintain her spiritual routine and be as active as possible.

It was Esther's choice to be cremated, not have a memorial service, and to have her cremains scattered with a prayer said to Jehovah asking that he keep her in his memory until the time for the resurrection on a paradise earth, Psalm 37:29.
