Ernestine Eleanor "Bay" Calhoun was born May 23, 1927 in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Eugene Calhoun, Sr. and Rosa B. Sullivan. She departed this life on October 15, 2021 at Sunset Village, Sylvania Township, Ohio.
She graduated in 1946 from Parker High School, Birmingham, Alabama. After meeting Alfred Thomas they were united in holy matrimony. Two children were born to this union. She later moved to Toledo, Ohio where she studied at Mary Manse College. Her love for cosmetology led her to becoming a licensed Cosmetologist, owning her own salon, Eleanor's Beauty on Lawrence at Norwood Avenue. Ernestine later met Steve Jordan, Jr. where they were united in holy matrimony to which two children were born.
She enjoyed ceramic projects, flower and vegetable gardening, and baking fried pies. She was a longtime member of Third Baptist Church. Later joining First Antioch Baptist Church until the onset of her illness.
Ernestine was preceded in death by her loving Husband of 36 years, Steve Jordan, Jr.; Brothers, Eugene Jr and Alfred "Mickey" Calhoun; Children, Derrick Thomas and Joy Jordan. She leaves to cherish her loving memory, Daughters, Deborah Thomas Knowles of Toledo, Ohio and Denise (Willie) Mosley of Lawrenceville, Georgia; 8 Grandchildren, Derrick Thomas, Terrazenia Scales, Aaron Knowles, Debbie Knowles, Steven Parks, Sr., Dania (Jorey) Satterfield, Darrell Jones and Savannah Mosley; and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, a special cousin Dorothy Grace and a host of other relatives.
The family will receive guests Thursday October 21, 2021 from 11:00 a.m – 12:00 p.m. at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - SW Chapel , (419-381-1900). Memorial Services will begin Thursday at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
