Erma Lee Walker, age 79, of Toledo, passed away Thursday, September 16th, 2010 at Waterford Commons. She was born September 7th, 1931 to Arceolar and Ora (Wear) Smith in Tupelo, Mississippi. Erma was a longtime resident of Mount Clemens, Michigan where she resided with her late husband, Russell Walker and was employed as an LPN with a local hospital for 30 years. Erma loved to travel throughout the United States. Family and friends were also important to her so she made sure she kept in touch with everyone over the years.
In addition to her parents, Erma was preceded in death by her loving husband, Russell Walker; her infant son; her brothers, Tilman; OB and Claude Henry Smith and her grandparents who raised her, James and Minnie Wear. Erma is survived by her sisters, Venetta Freeman of MS and Frances Smith of TN as well as a host of nieces, nephews, great; great-great and great great-great nieces and nephews and one great-great-great-great niece and many dear friends.
The family will receive guests Monday from 3-7:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). A Wake will begin Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Praise and Deliverance Church, 1047 Walbridge Ave. followed by Funeral Services beginning at 12:00 p.m. A Graveside Ceremony will begin Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. at Clinton Grove Cemetery, Clinton Township, MI.
Officiating will be Erma's nephew, Associate Pastor Garnie Freeman of Tupelo, MS.
The family would like to thank the staff of Waterford Commons for the loving care and support they provided for Erma during her stay and also to Erma's devoted niece Mattie Worthy and special niece Timnah Wills for their compassionate care.
