Emmett W. Dake, age 88, of Toledo, passed away Friday, April 3rd, 2009 at Parkcliffe Community. He was born July 15th, 1920 to Robert L. and Annie B. (Beard) Dake in Leesburg, Alabama. He was a WWII U.S. Marine Corp veteran serving in Okinawa, China and Guam. During his tour of duty Emmett received a Purple Heart when he was wounded in action on Sugar Loaf Hill in Okinawa. After serving in the military Emmett moved to Toledo where he worked for General Mills Soybean Factory in Rossford, Art Mosaic Tile Co and Champion Spark Plug.
In addition to his parents Emmett was preceded in death by his wife Mary Dake; brothers, Henry and Joe Dake and sisters, Jewel Bailey and Josephine Wilson. He is survived by his children, Timothy (Betty Jo) Dake of Loveland, OH; Bernadette (Art) Greiner of Toledo, OH and Kay Adams of Willoughby Hills, OH; 8 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren, brother, Frank Dake of Rome, GA and many dear friends.
The family will receive guests Tuesday from 12-1:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
