Elvin M. Smith, age 84, of Toledo, passed away May 23, 2016 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 25, 1931 in Tontogany, Ohio to Nelson and Gladys (Hashover) Smith. Elvin served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was self-employed as a Real Estate Investor. Elvin retired from the Dana Corporation. The greatest love of his life was his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Elvin is survived by his daughters, Deborah (Fred) McMillan, Pamela (Dennis) Moeller, Amy Smith, Bethany (James) Smith-Globig; grandchildren, Dan (Shannon) Smith, Brock (Karen) Moeller, Charlie Upchurch, Jaclyn Moeller and Ashley (Connor) Vargas; great-grandchildren, Zion Smith, Azlan Smith, Journey Smith, Brynn Moeller, Baylor Upchurch and Xavier Vargas; sister, Mary (Richard) Kuras and brother, Ray (Marilyn) Smith; brothers-in-law, Gordon Gould, Frank Grey and Donald Ramsden. In addition to his parents, Elvin was preceded in death by his wife, Betty May (McCan) Smith and siblings, Eugene, Delmar, Marcile, Alton, Myron, Burl, Vera, Ruth, Jane and Carol.
The family will receive guests Thursday, May 26, 2016 from 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home - SW Chapel, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. (419-381-1900). Funeral Services will begin Friday at 10:00 am. at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Beaver Creek Cemetery, Grand Rapids, Ohio.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice in Elvin's memory.
