Ellis Monhollen, age 80, of Toledo, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at Mercy St. Vincent Hospital. He was born on September 3, 1943 to Luster and Laura Monhollen in Siler, Kentucky. Ellis worked in the Toledo Shipyard Port Authority for over 10 years and then became a boilermaker for Local 85 for over 43 years, retiring at the age of 71. He was an avid outdoorsman; loved fishing, hunting and being on the water. Ellis enjoyed playing cards, bowling and traveling throughout the U.S to visit family and friends. He had a passion for cars and looked forward to time spent with family and his grandchildren. He had a great sense of humor, was a big instigator and had no filter when he spoke. Ellis' smile, spirit and caring nature will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Edna Monhollen, L.S. Monhollen, Dora Ann Eaton, Opal Bundy, Nadine Solis, and Willard Monhollen. Left to cherish Ellis' memory are his loving wife of almost 30 years, Beverly Monhollen; son, Rodney (Veronica) Monhollen; step-sons, David (Sabine) O'Connor and Michael (Vennessa) O'Connor; grandchildren, Brandon (Samantha), Alyssa (Josh), Shelby, Lucas, Emily, and Dylan; great-grandson, Logan; siblings, Thelma (Arlie) Fuson and Carl Monhollen; many other extended family members and dear friends.
The family will receive guests on Friday, April 5, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home – West Sylvania Chapel, 3655 King Rd., Toledo, OH 43617 (419-392-9500). Funeral Services will begin on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.
