Ellaweze Cook

March 29, 1939 — November 22, 2022

Ellaweze Cook, The Diva, the Mistress of Ceremonies as well as the Songstress was born March 28, 1939, to the union of David Brownlee and Ella Mae Pryor in Calhoun City, Mississippi. She moved to Ohio with her family in the 1940s and became a member of The Church of the Living God located at 415 Indiana Ave.

Ellaweze attended the Jewell Academy and Seminary in Nashville, Tennessee, and was a graduate of Libbey High School in Toledo, OH. She attended St. Vincent's Hospital Nursing Academy and became a nurse and worked for 30 plus years.

She accepted Christ at an early age and would pray for her dolls as a young girl. Her ministry was through song which she executed with style and flair, she was known for boosting the service especially Sunday night programs, she incorporated her own song "Church Are you Ready for the Program." This introduction got everyone involved.

She was also known for her dressing style which included sharp dresses and suits not to mention those beautiful hats. Her signature song was "Two Wings" which was written by her and sung on several occasions. Her ministry was her singing and telling everyone about God, she enjoyed writing music, and spending time with family and friends especially her great grandson Giovanni "Von Von" Hall.

Little interesting fact, Ellaweze was offered a contract with Atlantic Records, the same label that signed Aretha Franklin, but she declined because of her religious convictions.

She leaves to mourn her passing her daughter Darleen & Willie Hall, of Toledo, OH, grandchildren John Tae & Kayla Player and Jwana Player of California, Cherise Hall, Fernley, NV. Great great grandchildren Giovanni "Von Von" Hall of Fernley, NV, Aria Player of Saginaw, MI. Brother David Christine Brownlee, of Syracuse, NY Erma Mooris of St. Louis, MO. God children Sean Vincent Bryant of Columbus, OH, Catherine Grace, Sandra "Pudgie'' Chandler, Sarah Jean Stovall Williams, Wardell "Peanut" Chandler, Talvon Linda Warren all of Toledo, OH and a host of nieces and nephews and friends.
