Elizabeth R. Alexander

On July 31, 2012, Elizabeth Ruth Gorney Alexander, lost her battle with Stage 4 Lung Cancer while at home surrounded by her family. She is rejoicing with the Angels in Heaven today!

Beth Gorney was born the ninth child of Frank J. & Ruth L. (Burns) Gorney, Sept. 10, 1945 in Toledo, OH. She was one of nine girls and four boys. She attended Catholic Grade Schools and Central Catholic High School. She was a devout Catholic all of her life. She attended mass at Blessed Sacrament and Christ the King Catholic Churches.

Beth loved to teach her family about the Catholic Faith, read, garden, camp and explore the outdoors. The family's favorite part of the holiday gatherings were her pies. Her greatest joy was her family (children, grand & great-grandchildren).

Beth was a very caring, giving and kind-hearted person who put cares and concerns of others before her own. She would give to others beyond it hurting herself. She tried to love as Jesus loved. She always found time to have a personal relationship with Jesus.

Beth was a care provider all of her life. She was mom to 9 children, 5 of her own, 2 nephews she raised & loved as her own, then 2 brothers that she loved & legally adopted as her own. She also was a Foster Mother for several years through SAFY. Beth provided Day Care in her home to numerous children over the years. There were ALWAYS children at Beth's house.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Laura L. (Tracy) Gomoll, Lee E. Alexander Jr., Carl V. (Melanie) Alexander Sr., Randy L. (Heather) Englehardt Sr., Charles E. Englehardt, Charlotte L. Alexander, Ryan Alexander, and Aaron Alexander; grandchildren: Jacob, Joshua & Joseph Gomoll, Jeremy & Jamie Leathers, April Poorman, Theresa Root, Michael Jacobs, Casey, Jessica & Joshua Alexander, Eric Grubbs, Carl Jr., Mathew, Angelica, Robert, Louis, Desire, Ashley, Titus, Shawn & Shania Alexander, Michelle Stey, Jenna & Andria Oliver, Randy Englehardt Jr., Haven Daughtery, Michael, Mikayla, & Anthony Alexander and 13 great-grandchildren; siblings: Sue (Emmett) Pickens, Jean Tupciauskas, Mary Gorney, Frank (Phyliss) Gorney Jr., Anthony Gorney, Patricia Shirkey, John (Linda) Gorney Sr., Theresa (Jim) Gragg, JoAnn Parker, Genevieve Ceci, Veronica (Ron) Tibble; and numerous nieces and nephews. Beth was preceded in death by her son: Michael A. Alexander, Grandson: Jeremiah A. Gomoll, Brother: Michael J. Gorney and her parents.

The family will receive guests on Sunday from 2 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300) with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Prayers will begin Monday at 9:00 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 4227 Bellevue Rd., Toledo. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
