Elizabeth Jane (Boers) Trease, age 90, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2015. She was born on April 3, 1924 in Detroit, Michigan and graduated from Cass Technical High School and attended Wayne State University, majoring in chemistry and science. She was a member of the Theta Kappa Sigma Sorority.
During World War II she was in the Civil Air Patrol and was a Cadet Nurse. She then worked as a chemist at Packard Motor Co. and also was hired as the first woman chemist at U.S. Rubber Co.
She married her high school sweetheart, Ralph on December 28, 1944 and they had nine children; sixteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
After the family moved to Toledo in 1961, she worked at St. Vincent's Hospital as a unit clerk for seven years. She was very active at the Rosary Cathedral as the Sacristan, Tour Guide and Alter Sodality President. She also played the organ and the guitar for the children's daily Mass.
Elizabeth enjoyed spending time with her family and the following activities such as camping, knitting sweaters, for many years she created Rosaries for the Missions, traveling with Ralph and playing music in her family band.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Herman and Pearl Boers; daughter in law, Kathy Trease; son in law, Tom Brazzill; brother, Laurie Boers; sister, Patricia Boers and two sons, Thomas and Robert. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Ralph; sons, Ralph, Jr. (Janet), Dennis, Joseph, and John (Linda); daughters, Kathleen Brazzill, Patricia (David) Smith, and Margaret (Jeffrey) O'Connell.
The family will receive guests on Thursday, February 19, 2015 from 2-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). A Rosary will be recited in the funeral home on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Final Prayers will begin in the funeral home on Friday, February 20, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral, 2535 Collingwood Blvd. Toledo, OH 43610 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Msgr. William J. Kubacki officiating. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park in Sylvania.
