Eleanor "Bobbie" Christy, age 98, of Toledo, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2013 peacefully at Flower Hospital with both of her sons by her side. She was born on April 3, 1914 to Fred and Eleanor (Nahre) Shoemaker in Toledo.
Bobbie grew up on her family's farm in Ottawa Lake, Mich. She married Donald F. Christy, Sr. and lived in Sylvania on Whiteford Road until 1965 when she and Don moved to their home that they built on Carpenter Lake in Reading, Mich. Bobbie really enjoyed the lake house and liked it best when she had a house full of family and friends. She loved to cook for a large group; her hobbies were playing cards and going to the casino to play the penny slots.
Bobbie moved back to Ohio when Don passed away in 1981 and was a resident for the past 19 years at Luther Woods Apartments on Holland-Sylvania Rd in Toledo. She had many friends over the years and really enjoyed the time she spent with them. Bobbie was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Donald F. Christy, Jr. and William A. (Sharon) Christy; sister-in-law, Dorothy Shoemaker; grandchildren, James A. (Jenny) Christy, Adrienne S. Christy, Aaron J. Christy, Mike (Janice) Cook, Dave (Denise) Witkowski, Paul (Ky) McGrew, Mark (Michelle) McGrew and Stacie McGrew-Clark; 19 Great-Grandchildren and all of her close friends that have helped her over the years. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death husband, Don; brother, William Shoemaker, daughter-in-laws, Juanita and Shirley Christy and grandson, Michael McGrew.
The family will receive guests on Monday, March 11, 2013 from 2-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin in the funeral home on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.
The family would like to thank everyone who helped care for Bobbie, especially the last few years. It truly meant the world to Bobbie.
