John "Tim" Slater, 75, and his beloved wife, Eldeen L. Slater, 75, of Toledo, both passed this year, Tim on January 3, 2024, and Eldeen died unexpectedly on December 7, 2024. They shared 54 years of love and devotion.
Tim was born on April 22, 1948, in Marienville, PA, to Stephen and Beulah (McDonald) Slater. A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Tim went on to enjoy a successful career as an IT Project Manager. Tim didn’t want to sit around after becoming disabled so he started his own garment business, Creative Vision where he designed t-shirts, and often made custom ones for his grandchildren. Tim was a hard worker and provider and had a very dry sense of humor. Tim had a love for golf and cherished the time spent with his family. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Stephen "Tom" Slater, and his other brother, Ronald Slater.
Eldeen, born April 29, 1949, in Warren, PA, to Robert "Bob" and Wilda (Bloget) Nelson, was a compassionate and caring person. She worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Sunset Village and devoted her life to helping others. Eldeen was a caretaker at heart, always concerned for the well-being of everyone around her. She never missed a birthday or important occasion, sending heartfelt cards to loved ones to show she cared. She adored her lunches with the girls, treasured family and Sunday dinners where she joyfully sang Neil Diamond songs, and looked forward to Friday Bingo games. Her greatest happiness came from supporting and being with her children, grandchildren, and great grandson. Eldeen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother, Eric Nelson.
Tim and Eldeen were inseparable in life, sharing a deep, unwavering love. They were both very involved in their grandchildren’s lives attending games and events. They both also enjoyed being great grandparents. Tim's blindness did not stop Eldeen from being his eyes, lovingly caring for him throughout their years together. Their marriage was a model of devotion, and their family was the center of their world.
They are survived by their daughters, Cara (Eric McCumons) Rearick and Lisa (Dina Carrisalez) Slater; grandchildren Mia (Joshua Brady) Rearick and Miles Rearick; great-grandson Ashton Brady; along with nieces, nephews, and extended family. Besides their parents and siblings, they also were preceded in death by their former son-in-law, David Rearick.
Friends will be received at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd, Toledo, Ohio 43614 (419-381-1900) on Thursday, December 19, 2024 from 12pm-2pm and 4pm-6pm. A funeral service for Tim and Eldeen will follow at 6 pm.
