Eileen C. Stemen-Runkle, age 85, formerly of Temperance, Michigan joined the comforting arms of her heavenly father at her daughters residence where she was surrounded by her loving family Tuesday, September 28, 2010 Petersburg, Michigan. She was born July 23, 1925 to George and Violet (White) Weiler in Detroit, Michigan. Eileen was the former owner and operator of the Michigan Tavern for more than 26 years. She was a member of the Eagles and General Mills Retirees Group. Eileen was a valued employee of Newcomer Funeral Home for several years, providing a strong shoulder and a friendly smile for those in her care. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren. Eileen will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, Eileen was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Runkle; son, Charles "Chuckie" Stemen Jr.; sisters, Joan Zaski and Dorie Sowa and brother, Joe Weiler. She is survived by her daughters, Cherie (Dave) Kolar and Patricia "Patti" (Carl) Church; step-children, George (Kathy) Runkle, Karen "Kitty" (Steve) Andrews and Russell (Kathy) Runkle; grandchildren, Mark, Deanna, Mike, Stephanie and Amanda; many more grandchildren and great-grandchildren and special friend, Gail Church.
The family will receive guests Friday from 3-7:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Friday at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Graveside services will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in Toledo Memorial Park, 6382 Monroe St., Sylvania, Ohio. Friends are invited to meet the family Saturday at 9:45 a.m. at the front gates of the cemetery.
