Edward Francis Smitley

Edward F. Smitley, age 75, of Swanton, passed away Thursday, November 21st, 2019. He was born July 17th, 1944 in Toledo, Ohio to Huston and Betty (Cooper) Smitley.
Ed worked in the Automotive Industry, retiring after many years of service. He was a longtime member of the NHRA and an avid racing fan. Ed enjoyed going to Raceway Park, where he took a lot of pride in his son's race car when he was there. He also had a love for Rock & Roll and road trips traveling along Route 66.
Ed will be remembered for his love of the simple things in life; like garden grown veggies, homemade eggnog, a warm hat, a long summer drive in his truck or a strong margarita. He was a fun grandpa who always have candy or a treat to give when he would visit. Ed had a giving and loving heart. He was a wonderful brother, father, grandfather and friend. Ed cherished the time he was able to spend with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He had a great sense of humor and a love for gag-gifts and being the life of the party. Ed was every bartenders favorite customer. He was known for bringing local waitresses and bartenders gifts during the holiday season. "Mr. Ed", as he was known, would love for everyone to raise their glass and drink a cold one in his memory.
In a addition to his parents, Huston and Betty Smitley, Ed was also preceded in death by his brothers, Arthur and Roger Smitley.
He is survived by his loving children, Todd (Dawn Marie) Smitley, Cynthia Garcia and Rebecca Benson; siblings, Sharon Smitley, Charlotte Turck, Robin (Mark) Smitley, Myron (Joanne) Smitley and Timothy (Shirley) Smitley; grandchildren, Daisy Benson, Madison Benson, Santana Garcia, Jessica (Scott) Mitchell, Nicole and Amanda (Ryan) Damazyn.
The family will receive guests Monday, November 25th, 2019 from 5-7:00 p.m. at Newcomer, Southwest Chapel, Toledo (419-381-1900) to remember and celebrate Ed's Life.
