Edward J. Searles

September 6, 1930 — March 31, 2025

Edward J. Searles, known affectionately as Ed, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2025, in Temperance, Michigan, at the age of 94. Born on September 6, 1930, in Tecumseh, Michigan, Ed dedicated his life to his family and his country. He proudly served twelve years in the United States Army, including service during the Korean War, where he achieved the rank of Sergeant. This period of military service played a significant role in shaping the man he became.

Following his military career, Ed transitioned into the manufacturing sector before enjoying a fulfilling career as a security guard, predominantly with Securitas Security Services, from which he retired at the age of 88 in 2018. Throughout his life, Ed was known for his steadfastness and strong sense of duty, traits that he instilled in those around him.

Ed had a deep love for his family, and his heart was forever marked by the loss of his beloved wife, Dorothy, who passed away in 1996 after their 36 years of marriage. His legacy continues through his son, Thomas J. Searles, and daughter-in-law, Debbie; his long-time companion, Jeannie Hahn; his grandson, Robert Searles, and wife, Emily; and his granddaughter, Jeannie Middlebrooks, and husband, Joe. He also leaves behind great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of extended family and friends who cherished him dearly.

Ed’s interests were diverse. He had a passion for gardening, often boasting about his pristine garden, which was always free of weeds. He found joy in watching football on television and relished day trips to various destinations, such as Shipshewana, Indiana, and the charming Amish communities. His engagements in these activities expressed his vibrant spirit and appreciation of life's simple pleasures.

A graveside service with military honors to honor Ed’s life will be held at Toledo Memorial Park in Sylvania, Ohio, on April 25, 2025, at 1:00 PM.

Ed Searles leaves behind a legacy of service, love, and steadfastness, characterizing a life well-lived. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
