Edward R. "Ed" Flynn, age 90, of Perrysburg, passed away peacefully, Thursday, April 19, 2012 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 28, 1921 to Thomas and Lorraine (Richey) Flynn in Toledo. Ed attended Old St. Patrick's elementary school and Central Catholic High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during WWII serving his country proudly. Ed had a long career with the Railroad as an engineer, beginning with Wabash Railroad and then retiring from Norfolk Southern in 1985 after 49 years of service. He was a 65 year member with the BPOE; he held many offices including Exalted Ruler and Elk of the Year in 1985. Ed was a longtime member of The Historic Church of St. Patrick and very proud of his Irish heritage. He was accomplished in trap and skeet, enjoyed golfing and was known for his generosity and quick humor. Ed will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Ed is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Jean Flynn; children, Cathy (Ron) Eckel, Ann (Jeffrey) Figmaka, Deanna Flynn and Marty (Linda) Flynn; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Brian) Hare, Rachel Eckel, Jacob Flynn and Caitlyn Flynn; and one future great-grandchild, Juniper Jane or Isaac Edwin Hare, who had the pleasure of hearing Great-Grandpa's laugh and love through the past nine months.
The family will receive guests on Monday from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at The Historic Church of St. Patrick, 130 Avondale Ave., Toledo, Ohio 43604 with Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the church. Interment will be private. The Newcomer Funeral Home (419-381-1900) assisted the family with arrangements.
