Edward VanBuren McKay

Edward VanBuren McKay, age 85, of Swanton, Ohio passed away on January 17, 2025, with loved ones by his side. He is preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe McCay and Ruby McCay, sister, Joyce Flannagan and brother, Charles McCay.

Left to cherish his memory are: his wife Mary Jane McKay; sister Margaret McCay; children Scott Motter (Terri), Timothy McKay (Paul), Michelle Andreoli, Matthew McKay, Cameron McKay (Ashley); and grandchildren, Caleb Motter, Carson Andreoli, Noah Motter, Braeden Andreoli, Marek Andreoli, Maddoxx McKay and Meridian McKay.

Edward was born in Pelham, GA to Roscoe and Ruby McCay (Hampton). He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and served for six years before being honorably discharged with a rank of Lance Corporal. After the military he went to work as a manager at Frish’s Big Boy Restaurant where he met his wife of 59 years, Mary Jane Wiland. Ed had an Electronics Engineering Degree and worked in that industry for several years until realizing his dream of business ownership and opened Mail Vault Sylvania and was in business for over 40 years.

Edward was a loving husband and father and adored his grandchildren. He was an avid runner, running countless 5k and 10k races, several half marathons and marathons and also coached cross country at St. Richards School and track and cross country at McCauley High School. He was a member of the Progressive Fishing Association in Whitehouse Ohio where he held a position as an officer and enjoyed fishing with his children and grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the Ann Arbor VA Hospital and staff and the University of Michigan Hospital and staff, as well as the Fisher House and staff in Ann Arbor for their care and generosity. Thank you to friends and family members for your kind words and outpouring of love.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of him to the Ann Arbor Fisher House.

There will be visitation from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm with memorial service at 1:00 pm, Saturday, February 1st, 2025, at Newcomer Funeral Home, (West Sylvania Chapel) 3655 King Road, Toledo Ohio 43617
