Edward L. Poling, age 83, of Toledo, passed away on August 19th, 2011 at St. Luke's Hospital. He was born October 29th, 1927 to Ora and Florence (Ruth-Smith) Poling in Toledo.
Ed was a U.S. Merchant Marine and U.S. Army veteran, serving his country proudly. He was employed with Jeep for 38 years before retiring. Ed was also the owner of Saxon Products, a company that he operated for 52 years. During his retirement, Ed was a consultant of the import business from Taiwan. He was an avid gun collector and the past President of the Maumee Valley Gun Collectors Association, Inc. Ed was also a member of the American Legion Post # 642. He collected stamps and also enjoyed his antique cars.
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his first wife of 37 years, Genevieve Poling; brothers, Ora, Jr., Dick, Jim and Ken Poling and his sister, Jean Doty and her husband, Calvin Doty. Ed is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Tracy T. Poling; sons, Scott, Jeff (Victoria) and Keith Poling; grandsons, Eddie and T.J.; great granddaughter, Desiree; many nieces and nephews and dear friends, Rodger and Cathy Kokensparger.
The family will receive guests Monday from 3-5:00 p.m. and 6-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. (419-381-1900). A Military Service will take place at 8:00 p.m.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Monroe, Dr. Mehta and the Nurses of 2-West and Intensive Care, at St. Luke's Hospital.
