Edward J. "Ed" Grosswiler, age 71, of Sylvania, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2016 at Heartland at Promedica in Sylvania. He was born on September 4, 1945 to Roy and Anna (Clarbout) Grosswiler in Monroe, MI. Ed proudly served his country in the US Army, serving two tours in Korea after the war. He retired from the City of Sylvania as a Civil Engineer after 35 years of service. Ed was a baseball umpire for Sylvania Schools for a number of years. Ed was a long time member of the Sylvania Moose Lodge, #1579; lifetime member of the American Legion, Post # 587 and VFW Post #2898. He was a devoted member of St. Joseph Church in Sylvania and often donated to multiple local and national children's charities throughout the years.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 19 years, Rene (Theriac) Grosswiler; children, Charles Roach (deceased); Tina (Larry) Lewis, Kim (Michael) Burks and Richard (Debbie) Fry; brother, Roy B. (Cam) Grosswiler; many precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.
The family will receive guests on Monday, October 24, 2016 from 4-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin in the funeral home on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
