Edward Darle Gray, age 83 of Toledo, passed away Monday, September 6th, 2004 in the Lutheran Village at Wolf Creek. He was born December 19, 1920 to Nathan and Bertha (Mosher) Gray in Summerfield, Michigan. Edward served with the U.S. Navy during World War II where he earned the Victory Medal, the African-European-Middle Eastern Medal and the American Area Medal. Edward was employed with the former National Life Insurance Co. (currently the American General Insurance Co.) for 25 years, retiring in 1980. During his employment Edward was involved in Personal Sales as well as being a Sales Manager. During his career he was the recipient of several honors and awards including winning trips to Spain, England and Hawaii. He was also a member of the Century Club and the Quality and Half Million Clubs. After retirement, Edward enjoyed traveling and visiting his family and friends in Florida, New Jersey and Columbus, Ohio.
In addition to his parents, brothers and sister, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Marie (Dodge) Gray; daughter, Sharon Knoll; and granddaughter, Darla Knoll. Edward is survived by his loving children, Roberta S. Gray and, retired Army CWO3 Stephen D. Gray; grandchildren, Matthew Knoll, Mark Knoll, Michael Knoll, Stephen Gray, Jr. and Dawn Gray; great grandchildren, Rachel and Ashley Knoll and Jonathan Gallagher.
The family will receive guests Friday from 3-8:00 p.m. at the Newcomer-Farley Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will be Saturday at 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment including military honors ceremony will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers Memorial Contributions may be made to the Lucas County Humane Society or to the American Diabetes Association.
