Edward G. Finn passed away September 26, 2012 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio after a prolonged illness. Eddie was born in Riverside Hospital in Toledo, Ohio on November 21, 1950 to Gerald P. and Dorothy M. (Schaefer) Finn, the older of two children. Eddie never liked to miss work. His work experience included Rentner Lumber, Lott Industries and, most recently, TARTA where he was still employed when he became sick.
He spent his growing years mostly in Orient, Ohio, returning to Toledo as an adult. He loved listening to Rush Limbaugh and was very interested in politics. He was proud to vote. He also enjoyed watching the History channel and wrestling. Eddie was a quiet, gentle and private man who loved people. On his porch he had many potted plants which he cared for and recently got a gecko and a couple tropical fish. He especially enjoyed time with his best friend, Tom Rathbun, who he met in Orient and introduced to his sister which resulted in their marriage.
Eddie was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy, his sister Carol (Finn) Rathbun and his uncle George Schaefer.
He is survived by his brother-in-law, Tom Rathbun; aunt, Trudy (Schaefer) Navarre (Lima, Ohio); 1st cousins Fred (Beverly) Schaefer (Maumee, Ohio), Don Schaefer (Lomita, California), Dawn (Jim) Wingate (Lima, Ohio), Darla Monroe (Lima, Ohio) and Diane Lauer (Lima, Ohio).
Eddie was deeply loved and cared for by his extended family at The Epilepsy Center of Northwest Ohio. Many thanks go out to Latonya, Brittany, Olga and Faron who have been close to Eddie and provided daily care. We also want to thank his care nurses at Hospice, Angie, Mary Jo, Beth and Mary Beth, for loving attention during his last days.
The family will receive guests Monday, October 1, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. in the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., (419-381-1900). Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park Cemetery.
