Edith M. "Edie" Hughes, age 90, of Cadillac, passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2014. She was born on June 2, 1924 to Clarence and Eva (Wright) Sorter in Monroe, Michigan. Edie was a member of Bedford Senior Center, where she often enjoyed line dancing and western square dancing. Glen LeFever was always their caller. She loved the outdoors, cutting grass and boating with her family and friends. Edie will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William F. Hughes, Jr.; son, William F. Hughes, III; daughter, Joyce Petee; daughter-in-law, Beverly Hughes; grandson, Mark Jacobs; great-granddaughter, Bailey Vermilyea; special friend, Bill Culp; 4 sisters; and 5 brothers. Edie is survived by her children, Patsy J. Jacobs, Beverly A. (Bill) Vermilyea and James S. (Chris) Hughes; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; sister, Helen Fulton-Petit; sister-in-law, Marcella "Sally" Hughes; many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
The family will receive guests on Sunday from 2 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Monday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Whiteford Union Cemetery.
