Earnest Jr. Hatfield

Earnest Jr. Hatfield, age 92, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2025 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo. He was born July 24, 1932, in Grelton, Ohio, to the late Earnest and Julia (Van Duzsen) Hatfield.

Earnest graduated from Liberty Center High School in 1950. He served honorably in the United States Army, an experience that deepened his sense of duty and commitment to serve his country. After his military service, Earnest took his skills into the workforce, spending many years at Schultz Oil, where he dedicated himself tirelessly until his retirement. His contributions at work were not just professional; they also reflected his personal ideals of hard work.

Beyond his career, Earnest had a passion for building and tinkering. He found joy in restoring tractors, preferably John Deere, and working on various projects around the house. Whether it was building something new or simply maintaining his flowers and yard, he was always busy, engaging with the world around him.

A man of faith, he was a member of Monroe Street United Methodist Church.

Earnest's legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

Those left to forever cherish his memory are his loving wife, Nancy (Woolf) Dome Hatfield, whom he married on October 15, 1994; son, Jeffrey (Tina) Hatfield; daughter-in-law, Shelley Hatfield; grandchildren, Ashlee Jones, Brittnee Hatfield, Christian Carothers, and Matthew Hatfield; great-grandchildren, Braydee, Logann, Kendal, Kree, Ewan, Damone, Rain, Vila, and Nicolas; sister, Sharon Hatfield; brother, Robert Hatfield; and many other family members, friends, and loved ones.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, John Hatfield; first wife, Germaine Hatfield; brother, Robert Dome; and sisters, Betty Johnson, Margaret Hartman, Donna Kline, and Virginia Kopus.

Family and friends may gather at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 West Laskey Road, Toledo, Ohio, 43623, on Friday, March 7, 2025, from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm. Funeral services will begin at 3:00 pm. 

Memorial contributions may be made to Monroe Street United Methodist Church.
