Earl T. Mowery

September 12, 1930 — March 19, 2021

Earl T. Mowery, of Maumee, Ohio, 90, passed onto meet his Savior on March 19, 2021.

He was born September 12, 1930 in Toledo to James and Rose Mowery. Earl attended Maumee High School and was on the football and track teams. He played football with the Heisman Trophy winner and was high point man on his track team. Dad loved flying, and at a young age he caddied to earn money for his flying lessons.

At 15 years old he soloed and landed in the now Franklin Park Mall so he could visit his aunt.

He enjoyed golfing, bowling, hunting, fishing and also enjoyed making furniture and doing ceramics with Mom.

He loved baseball and his friend, Mickey Owens would provide Dad tickets to the Chicago Cub's and dad met players like Stan Musial and was proud to have shook Jackie Robinson's hand.

Dad was a devoted father and loved his children. He was a Cub Scout Master at Fulton School, and a Boy Scout Master at Whittier School. He coached baseball for the Whittier Tigers and helped officiate at Start High School track meets. He was an avid chess player and was instrumental in starting the High School chess club in Toledo around 1955-1956 and then served as the league director.

Dad played chess every week right up until COVID and loved to see all of his friends.

He ran 2 service stations on the east side next to Tony Packo's and he taught auto mechanics at the workhouse in Whitehouse, OH and eventually retired from the City of Toledo.

He loved to camp and travel with Mom, he loved their camping friends. When we were grade school children Dad took our family on a 4 week vacation to Philmont, in New Mexico and we then toured about 20 states in a Truck Camper.

Surviving are all of his children, Louise Brescol, Gary (Judie), Steve (Carol), Tim (Toni) all of Toledo and Dan (Debbie) Mowery of Houghton Lake, MI; 10 grandchildren and many great grandchildren; and brother, Larry (Shelia) Mowery of Naples, FL.

Private family services were held.
