Dr. Barbara L. "Barby" Britsch, age 86, of Toledo, passed away peacefully Monday, December 3, 2012 at the Regency Hospital of Toledo. She was born on November 6, 1926 to Harvey and Grace (Denman) Martin in Toledo. Barby graduated from the University of Michigan and was an avid Wolverines fan. She worked as a professor with the University of Toledo, and most recently Lourde's College, retiring at the age of 80. Barby was a longtime member of the First Unitarian Church and was active in the choir. She was involved in the Toledo Theatre, wrote children's book reviews for the Toledo Blade and wrote a book about teaching children. Barby was a professional children's storyteller and a specialist in children's literature. In 2005 she received the award for the Outstanding Older Worker in the State of Ohio. She loved nothing more than the summers spent on Nantucket with her family. Barby will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Britsch; and brother, Jack Martin. Barby is survived by her loving sons, Martin (Bill) and David Britsch; niece, Gay (John); and nephew, George (Caroline).
A Memorial Service for Barby will take place Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at First Unitarian Church, 3205 Glendale Ave., Toledo, OH 43614. The Newcomer Funeral Home, (419-381-1900) assisted the family with professional services.

Barby was blessed with a large circle of friends and loved ones which was made evident at this difficult time with all of the love and support shown to Barby and her family.
