Douglas P. May

Douglas P. May passed away Thursday, July 14, 2022, doing what he loved, riding his motorcycle. Doug is best known for his fiery spirit, quick wit, love for family, home, cars, motorcycles, music, and photography. He was always willing to help family, friends, and neighbors with anything they needed; he would give you the shirt off his back. He loved his home and found immense joy working in the yard. He had a secret competition to have the best lawn in the circle, which his wife, will happily continue for him.

Doug had a multitude of talents. He designed and made parts for his cars and motorcycles, including a custom frame and suspension. He was able to assemble a complete motorcycle from a frame and parts bought in baskets. He taught himself many skills, including how to weld, but there were so many more talents he possessed. Doug was a craftsman, retiring from The Spieker Company after 21 years, Doug contributed to construction on many new and existing buildings all around the Toledo, Ohio landscape. He was able to do anything with meticulous detail including, but not limited to carpentry, concrete, plumbing, electrical and interior finishes. There was no project he could not complete, he could construct and fix anything.

Doug was a talented artist. He designed intricate, hand drawn, poster size mazes, and drew anything on his first attempt. One day while watching a television show about airbrushing "real fire" onto cars and motorcycles, Doug became obsessed with this skill. He practiced on everything from his air tank, garage cabinets, miscellaneous pieces of metal to an entire wall in his basement. He was able to perfect this technique in a matter of weeks with incredible precision. He loved to do body work as well as paint cars and motorcycles. His patience and understanding of prep work led to perfect execution of all his custom paint projects. Everyone that had the chance to experience his work was in awe of his talent.

Doug loved music and playing the guitar. He played by ear, and could play any song his wife, Katie suggested to him. He developed a passion for guitar at a young age, which continued throughout his life. He enjoyed trying to share his craft with his family. Doug enjoyed studying guitar theory and was on the internet daily researching and learning new songs and skills.

Doug is survived by his wife, Katie; children, Erin and Brian; sisters, Denesse and Monica; brother, Jon; grandchildren, Hudson and Sloane; pets; Gigi and Allie, and many more family members that loved him dearly. Preceded in death by his father, Ronald (Elizabeth) May; and mother, Barbara (Richard) Kahl.

In lieu of flowers, please carry-on Doug's memory with a donation to the charity of your choice in Doug's name and continue to share fun stories about Doug with others. Services will be private, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
