Douglas Jay Kretzer

November 17, 1939 — March 9, 2021

On Tuesday, March 9, 2021, Douglas Jay Kretzer, loving husband and father of four children, passed away at the age of 81 after a long and courageous fight against COVID-19. Doug was born on November 17, 1939 in Toledo, OH to Otto and Eleanor Kretzer. He married Marcia Piotrowski on May 13, 1967. They raised four children, Scott, Kyle, Matt, and Kurt. He was devoted to his family and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

A talented musician, Doug shared the stage with many accomplished performers in the Toledo area. After a long tenure as a member of the Maumee Demons Drum and Bugle Corps, he became an influential teacher and mentor to many young percussionists as an instructor with the Maumee Suns, Toledo Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps, and the Maumee High School band program. With Doug's instruction and guidance, the Maumee Indoor Drumline was a perennial top-five finisher in national competitions.

Doug was preceded in death by his father, Otto, and his mother, Eleanor. He is survived by his wife, Marcia Kretzer; children, Scott (Kelly) Kretzer, Kyle (Tony) Kretzer, Matt (Belinda) Kretzer, and Kurt (Crystal) Kretzer; grandchildren, Max and Evyn Kachenmeister, Liam Kretzer, Ben (Samina) and Jake Gray; and brother, Dennis (Barbara) Kretzer.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Doug Kretzer Memorial Percussion Fund at the Toledo School for the Arts, 333 14th St. Toledo, Oh 43604, or online at ts4arts.org.

Family and Friends may visit Friday, March 19 from 2-7 p.m. and Saturday, March 20, from 2-5 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd, Toledo, OH.
