Dorothy Meeker, age 92, of Toledo, passed away on October 17, 2022. She was born the daughter of Earl and Edna (Paulson) Coon on January 7, 1930 in Williston, Ohio, which is where she was raised. Dorothy married Melvin "Motty" Meeker in 1952, and they lived most of their life together in Genoa, Ohio. She worked for Medical Mutual for thirty years before retiring. Dorothy was an avid reader, and she enjoyed cooking, spending time in her garden, and traveling. She and Motty loved spending their winters in Clearwater, Florida and visiting with their friends there. Dorothy was a long time, active member of the United Church of Christ, and she always loved participating in the various classes and programs offered at church and enhancing her knowledge of her faith. She particularly enjoyed visits with Rev. David Andersen and members of Sylvania UCC. For the last twelve years, Dorothy embraced her time at West Park Place, where she was a popular resident and participated in many programs and events. She had a deep seated love for her grandchildren, and was an animal lover through and through. Dorothy's sense of humor and witty demeanor will be missed by all who had the honor of meeting her.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by all of her siblings and many of her friends. She is survived by her children, Sandra (Jeff) Hauter and Rick (Machelle) Meeker; grandson, Damian (Carrie) Hauter; great-grandchildren, Damian (Kenzie) Hauter, Kira Hauter; and many loving nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staffs at St. Anne's Mercy Hospital and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their kind and loving care of Dorothy.
A memorial service for Dorothy will be held on Sunday, November 6, 2022 at 3:00 pm at Sylvania United Church of Christ, 7240 Erie St, Sylvania, OH 43560.
