Dorothy "Mae" Brown

March 18, 1938 — September 20, 2022

Mrs. Dorothy M. Brown "Mae" was born on March 18, 1938 to Josh and Addie L. Jones in Sunflower, Mississippi. She is the fourth of eight children and was raised by her paternal Grandmother, Gertrude Walls Lang "Big Mama" in Indianola, Mississippi. Dorothy accepted Christ at an early age and was a longtime member of Greater Nazarene Missionary Baptist Church. Dorothy fellowshipped with the Quartet Union under Brother Wardell Langston leadership, was in the Nurse Guild and was a member of Eleanor Chapter No. 60. Order of Eastern Stars. Dorothy worked at Control Rubber until the mid 70's, when her eyesight failed. She then worked as a caregiver until retirement in 2006.

Mrs. Dorothy Brown gained her wings on September 20, 2022, in her home with her daughters by her side surrounded by loving family. Mrs. Dorothy Brown was proceeded in death by both parents, Josh and Addie Jones; both grandparents; brothers, Josh Jones Jr (Pap), Roosevelt Johnson; daughters, Brenda Brown Woods, Linda Sims; Twin, Larry Brown; one grandson, and two great-grandsons. Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory son, Jerry Caston; four daughters, Peggy Jones, Nancy Caston, Gertrude Brown "Rita", and Glenda Howard; brother, Bobby Jones-Estrine; Sisters, Sally Williams, Gertie Simpson, Betty Joiner, and Addie Tunner; 21 Grandchildren, 52 Great Grandchildren, numerous Great-Great Grandchildren and a host of other family members.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Residential Hospice and Staff. Special thanks to Nurse Billie Joe and Pastor Lorraine. Thank you to all that called, text, or expressed your love for our Mom; we thank you.

The family will receive guests on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home - Southwest Chapel, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo (419-381-1900). Funeral Services will begin Thursday, September 29, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
