Donnie R. "Don" White
1948-2016

Don R. White, 67, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away early Friday morning July 29, 2016 at Ebeid Hospice of ProMedica surrounded by his family. Don was born in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee October 11, 1948 to Robert and Maye (Venable) White. When he was 2 years old his family moved to Toledo and brought with them their love of bluegrass music. Don was a self taught banjo player by the age of 14 and regarded by many as one of the best. He also excelled at guitar, bass and was an accomplished singer/songwriter. Many of his musical comrades will tell you as a bass player he had timing beyond compare. He began his bluegrass career with his father when he was a young man in the family band Robert White and The Candy Mountain Boys. Later as his sister and daughter joined the band the name was changed to The Candy Mountain Express. While he always remained a member of the family band he forged his own path and was a founding member of The Nitro Hill Band with which he was joined by his closest of friends. Don remained passionate about his music throughout the duration of his life.

Don was a Journeyman Tool and Die and very skilled injection mold maker. He mentored many people in both music and mold making. Don's other interests and passions included history, instrument building and repair and recently computer technology. He was an extremely intelligent man with a very dry sense of humor that only those who knew him best could understand.

In 1971 he married the love of his life. He is survived by his wife of 45 years Brenda (Wilgus) White; daughters, Tammy (Jaramie) Brescol, Kyle (Craig) Lay, and Amanda (Nick) Carl; grandchildren, Raegan, Ivan, Ryann, Isaac, Layla, Lucia, and Case; sisters, Jan (Tom) Stiles and Joan (Don) Coats; along with many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Maye (Venable) White, sister, Gloria (White) Christian and brother-in-law, Clay Christian.

In accordance to Don's wishes the family will be planning a Celebration of Life Jam Session tentatively for October 8, 2016.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the family to help with this celebration. (Paypal account tbrescol@gmail.com)
They also ask that anyone with videos and photos of Don please share with tbrescol@gmail.com.

And I wonder if you know
That I never understood
That although you said you'd go
Until you did I never thought you would
– Don McLean
