Vermilyea, Donna Arleen Wylie, "Mrs. V", age 90, of Toledo, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 4, 2017. She was born in Watertown, Michigan on February 21, 1927. After graduating from Baptist Bible Seminary in Johnson City, NY on June 2, 1947, Donna married her beloved Charles Vermilyea the following day. They celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary in 2006 two days before Charles passed away.
Donna served alongside her husband in pastoral ministry in churches in Michigan, Wisconsin and Ohio. She also served her family unselfishly. An excellent musician, Donna taught her four children to love music: they all studied piano, they sang together under her direction and two of them received music degrees in college.
Donna and her husband moved to Toledo in 1997. They were members of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Donna moved to Sunset Village, Sylvania, OH in August, 2016. The last 10 months of her life were happily spent with their wonderful staff and residents. Her last week she was supported by the Ashanti Hospice group.
Donna is survived by a son, Timothy (Barb) Vermilyea of Quebec City, Canada; daughters, Cathy (Mark) Engwert of Toledo, Ohio, Joy (Kit) Pherson of Wasilla, Alaska and Ellen (Art) Arrington of Bowling Green, Ohio; grandchildren, Heidi (Tim) Bott, Wendy (Chris) Baker, Mandi, Ben (Stacey) and Matt Vermilyea, Diane (Daniel) Reynolds, Esther (Joshua) Haynes, David (Jennifer) Pherson and Carla Pherson; 12 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Violet Vetter, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her infant son, Paul Edward and her sister, Joyce.
The family will receive guests on Wednesday 3-5:00 p.m. and 6-7:30 p.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 4207 Laskey Road. Funeral Services will begin Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the church. A private burial service will be held at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park on Thursday.
