Donald Thomas White, a resident of Lambertville, Michigan, departed this life on October 14, 2024, at The Toledo Hospital, due to septic shock. He was born on December 18, 1950, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, to Clifford Emerson White and Rowena Lou (Hall) White, who instilled in him a love for music and creativity that would guide his journey through life.
Donald’s academic pursuits led him to Baptist Bible College in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania, followed by the University of Toledo, where he proudly earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music. His diverse career encompassed roles at Montgomery Ward, Radio Shack, and Abacus, but he most delighted in his self-employment as a professional photographer and voice-over artist, talents that showcased his creative spirit and artistic flair.
Music was a cornerstone of Donald's life; he found great joy in singing both solo and as part of the choir at Emmanuel Baptist Church and Christ the Word Church in Toledo. His participation in the annual Messiah sing-a-long was a testament to his deep-seated passion for music and his commitment to sharing it with others.
Don's singing talent was noticed at an early age. He won several singing competitions as a teenager and eventually studied voice in Manhattan with Samuel Margolis, vocal coach to such opera luminaries as Robert Merrill and Jerome Hines. He went on to earn his BA from the University of Toledo and sang professionally for many years. After retiring from public performance he joined the stable of local jingle producer Ken R before going on to found Audiomatrix, a commercial music production studio in downtown Toledo. Further entrepreneurial endeavors followed, including photography and voiceover businesses. He also gave private voice lessons for many years and was always ready to share his wealth of musical knowledge with anyone who inquired.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Donald's interests included playing the piano, engaging in photography, woodworking, and most importantly, spending precious time with his family and friends. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Barbara Jean (Leisk) White, and a nurturing father to his children, Hannah (White) Holcomb, Adam White, Sarah White, and Paul White, as well as a proud grandfather to George White. He is also survived by his sister, Martha (White) Mohler. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Eva Katherine White (2014).
Family and friends will be received at the Newcomer Funeral Home - Northwest Chapel, 4150 West Laskey Rd, Toledo, on Monday, October 21, 2024 from 4:00-7:00 PM. Interment will be private at Toledo Memorial Park.
