Donald E. Wallace

May 3, 1945 — July 21, 2023

Donald E. Wallace, age 78, a longtime resident of Maumee, passed away Friday, July 21, 2023 in the loving care of his family at his home after a courageous battle with ALS. He was born May 3, 1945 in Barberton, Ohio to Roy and Gladys (Euwart) Wallace. Don graduated from Barberton High School in 1963. He then went on to attend Kent State University where he met the love of his life, Sue Ann Howard. Don was a US Air Force Veteran. Later, he continued to work with the US Department of Defense, from where he retired.

He was an avid musician playing the Euphonium, an instrument his grandchildren also learned to play. Don played in many performances of Tuba Christmas, the Maumee Community Band, the Genoa American Legion Band and Owens Community Band. He also sang with the Toledo Choral Society; the BG Choral Society who traveled to Europe to preform; and barbershop with the Seaway Commanders and the Church Choir. Don was also a faithful member of Maumee United Methodist Church.

He discovered his talent as an Artist by painting beautiful landscapes with vivid colors and detail. Don also enjoyed woodworking, creating many unique and usable pieces such as weather vanes, plant holders and occasionally special keepsakes for his family.

He had a love of learning and there seemed to be no subject that was unknown to him. Don was a volunteer at the National Museum of the Great Lakes in Toledo, on the Colonel James M. Schoonmaker. Sharing information with visitors or speaking with experts about these wondrous waterways just fascinated him.

He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, cherishing the time spent with those closest to him. Don's sense of humor and quick wit will forever be remembered by all who knew him. He was a kind man always seeing goodness in others and appreciating every act of kindness. Don lived each day knowing his life was a gift and his family, his treasure.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Dean and infant brother, Richard. Don is survived by his loving wife of almost 56 years, Sue Ann (Howard) Wallace; daughters, Wendy (Michael) Fedderke and Jenni Abisror; grandchildren, Zachary, Spencer and Jordyn; brother Loren (Carole) Wallace and sister-in-law, Pam Wallace.

The family will receive guests Friday, July 28, 2023 from 10:00 - 11:00 am at Maumee United Methodist, 405 Sackett St., Maumee, where services will begin at 11:00 am. Officiating, Pastors Joannie Schilling and Barry Burns. Interment to follow at Ft. Meigs Union Cemetery, Perrysburg.
