Donald Carman Spencer, age 83, of Maumee, Ohio, formerly of Toledo, passed away December 19, 2017 at Lutheran Village at Wolfcreek. He was born March 13, 1934 in Toledo to Dr. Newton Carman and Virginia (Iliff) Spencer. He was their only child. He attended DeVilbiss High School. Don then attended The University of Toledo, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in History. He completed ROTC with a commission of 2nd Lieutenant in 1957. After serving active duty, Don was in the Army Reserves and honorably discharged with the rank of Captain.
Don met Meryle "Mickey" McKnight in high school. Don and Mickey celebrated sixty years of marriage in August. Don worked many years with the Cincinnati Insurance Company through the Dussel Insurance Agency.
Don enjoyed coaching Little League baseball and football at Meadowvale Elementary in the Washington Local School District. He was an avid Notre Dame and Ohio State fan. He was also a faithful fan of the Cleveland Indians.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Meryle "Mickey" McKnight Spencer; children, Douglas (Theresa) Spencer, Kathryn (Adonica DeVault) Spencer and Patricia (Erick) Spencer-Zorbaleeff; grandchildren, Derek Spencer and Molly (Clinton III) Gregory, and great-grandchildren, Alexander Spencer, Maci Gregory and Clinton Gregory IV.
The family would like to thank the staff at Lutheran Village at Wolfcreek for their care and friendship.
The family will receive guests Saturday, December 23rd, from 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm at Newcomer - SW Chapel, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. Toledo (419-381-1900). Funeral Services will begin 2:00 pm, Saturday at the funeral home.
