Donald "Don" Rooks, age 87, of Toledo, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at St. Anne's Mercy Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 16, 1921 to George and Minnie (Burrier) Rooks in Toledo. Don was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during WWII. Don was retired from Chrysler Jeep after 47 years of service. He was a UAW Local 12 member for many years. Don also was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, bowling and golfing in his spare time. He was a volunteer at Bay View Golf Course. Don always looked forward to traveling to Florida for the winter. He was a huge fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes. Don was an avid reader and loved nothing more than spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, William and Harold Rooks, sister, Mabel Amsler and an infant sister. Don is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Lydia Rooks; children, Donald Rooks, Jean Netry, Randy, Jeff (Stephanie) and Greg (Kim) Rooks; grandchildren, Corey, Ryan, Jamie, Ashlee, Breann, Lacie, Kelsi, Heather, Jacob and Eric; and great-grandchildren, Connor, McKenzie, Jaelei and Alexi.
There will be no visitation and services were private for Don, per his wishes. The Newcomer Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
