Donald Charles Reed, 91 passed away in his home in Holland, Ohio Monday July 1st. Don was born at home on December 12th, 1932 in Sylvania, Ohio to parents Daniel and Lillian (Lindenschmidt) Reed. He Graduated from Burnham High School in the summer of 1950 and was drafted and served in the Korean War in 1953-1955 and returned home shortly after. He began his work career building mobile homes as an assembler and retired at Doehler Jarvis in the quality department after 30 years of service.
Grandpa Don was a loving and selfless dad and grandpa who made sure to never leave the families side. He always made sure to have eyes on those closest to him. Gramps passion for music and picking those strings was beloved and has carried on through multiple generations. His comedic personality was so treasured and precious, and even through social Media he made sure to keep his grandkids and even great grandkids in his sights with his witty posts, comments and praise.
He is preceded in death by his two beloved daughters Theresa Veres and Pamela VonAhrens, his parents as well as his sisters Betty Jean Thompson, Shirley Majeski, Marie Kill, Lois Hincher and brothers Howard Barber, and Daniel Reed.
He is survived by his daughter Dawn Shirey as well as grandchildren Randy VonAhrens (Amy Thornton), Jennifer (Dean) Farmer, Michelle Von Ahrens, Jeremy (Tiffany) Shirey, Josh (Kellie) Shirey, Justin Shirey, Bobby (Brittany) Veres and Amber Veres (Jason McJilton) and Jarett (Luci) Shirey and his great grandchildren, Austin, Maria, Kennedy, Brynn, Emerson, Kayden, Ysabella, Arabella, Madison, Jackson, Dylan, Liberty and Lawson as well as several Nieces and Nephews and friends to cherish his memory.
Gramps visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 from 4-7pm at Newcomer Funeral Home at 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. Toledo, Ohio 43614. Military honors will be held immediately following visitation at 7:00 pm. All family and friends are welcome to attend. Please come share a story, memory or beloved tale of Gramps and help us treasure his memory!
Gramps, you helped shape us into who we are today and for that we will ever be grateful. We will all love you and will miss you forever and promise to keep on pickin’ sir.
