Don was called home by His Lord and Savior on December 24, 2011. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Toledo where he served as Sunday School Superintendent and Teacher, Youth Leader and Deacon. Other churches he was involved with include Grace Baptist, Westlake, OH serving as Youth Leader; First Baptist Church of Perrysburg serving as Sunday School Teacher; and Bethel Baptist Church of Toledo serving as Sunday School Teacher. Don's work life started at Hanover Shoes. Primarily he was a buyer for B.R. Baker Co. and Lamson's before starting a new career in insurance with Prudential Insurance Company. He later retired from Allstate Insurance in 1993.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Genevieve Leach, sisters, Erma (Jack) Giddens and Patricia (Bob) Dolkey and brother, Robert (Ginny) Leach. Don is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Dawn (Duffey) Leach; sons, Donald (Anita) Leach, Jr., Daniel (Sue) Leach, David Leach; daughter, Denise (Phil) Frederick; grandchildren, Daniel Leach, Jr., Sarah (Joe) Whitehead, Lindsey (Gary) Simpkins, Kimberly Neyhart, Connie Neyhart, Aaron Frederick, Amanda Frederick, Candace (Ray) Hall and Chris Miligan; great-grandchildren, Gavin Lucas Simpkins and Raylynn Hall; and many nieces and nephews who affectionately knew Don as "Uncle Butch."
The family will receive guests on Friday from 2 – 5:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300) with Funeral Services beginning at 5:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Officiating will be Pastor Bruce Snyder of Emmanuel Baptist Church and Pastor Andy Hill from Calvary Bible Chapel, both in Toledo.
Those wishing to make monetary donations are asked to consider the American Diabetes Foundation of Northwest Ohio or to the Mission Ministry of Calvary Bible Chapel in Toledo.
