Donald Meade Stalker, of Sylvania, passed peacefully from this earth Friday, September 6, 2013, at Ebeid Hospice in Sylvania, Ohio at the age of 92. He was born February 17, 1921, in Toledo, Ohio to parents Fred Stalker and Edith Meade Stalker. Donald served in the U.S. Army during WWII and the Korean War serving as a 1st Lieutenant in the Signal Corp. He met the love of his life, Anna Wright, and after a brief courtship they were wed in 1943. Don and Anna raised six sons and two daughters. His work life started as a carpenter, which led to being a building contractor, and to many years of teaching carpentry at Sylvania and Bedford High School. Don retired in 1984.
Don will be remembered for his personal integrity, his sense of humor and wit, and his unconditional love and devotion to his family. Dad was our go-to-guy; always there with the right advice. He provided a place of serenity for his children and grandchildren to feel free to explore; we will always remember the carefree fun at Coldwater Lake, MI. He was an inspirational Scoutmaster to many Boy Scouts. An avid Morse code listener, Don's amateur call was KA8RWI. He was an active member of Trilby Church for 70 years, serving the church in many different capacities.
Don was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Anna, brothers: Allan and Jim; sisters: Marian Evans and Dorothy Link. Surviving are his daughters: Robin Lloyd and Donna Armstrong; sons: Tom (Kathy), Steve (Karen), Mike (Debbie), Rich (Lee), Dave (Cosette) and Pete (Gretchen) and sister: Virginia Temple. The number of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren would fill a book.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 11th from 2-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 West Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, September 12th at 11:00 a.m. at Trilby United Methodist Church, 5918 Secor Road in Toledo.
