Donald "Don" Jorris, 88, died Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at his home of over 30 years. Don was born November 11, 1928 in Toledo, to the late Rodell and Mildred Jorris.
Don was preceded in death by his loving wife Mary, who would have celebrated 64 years of marriage. He is survived by his sister, Joan Ackley; son, Michael Jorris; daughter, Diana (Jim) Avaritt; grandchildren, Brad (Andrea) Russell, Robert (Kathleen) Russell, Taylor Jorris; great-grandchildren, John, Dru, and Preston Russell; extended family and many close friends.
Don was raised in Liberty Center on his grandparent's farm where he had 14 of the best years of his life. After graduating from DeVilbiss High School he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in South Korea as a Medical Technician.
After Serving in Korea, Don Began working as an inspector supervisor for Dura Corp., then joined the U.S. Postal Service where he was a postal carrier until he retired in 1990. After retirement Don made deliveries for KC Catering part-time. During his time at all three places he made life-long friends that meant the world to him and Mary.
An avid sports fan, Don loved sports of all kinds, from years of bowling and Golf leagues to his strong love of the Tigers, Lions, and Mudhens. He was also a great lover of cards, Euchre, Poker, Pinochle, and anything that he could have fun and "Kibitz" about. He also loved to travel with friends and his beloved wife, especially to Vegas.
Before passing Don wanted to give a very special thanks to his Hospice nurse, Anne, and his aide, Shenese and their Hospice team for the wonderful care they provided during those last days.
The family will be receiving guests Monday, October 30, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. for Graveside Services at, Historic Woodlawn Cemetery. Following services will be a Celebration of Life, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Meadowbrook Estate Club House, 340 S. Reynolds Road, Toledo (419 536 8949).
In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family is asking for donations to Ohio Living Home Health and Hospice, for all of the important work that they do on a daily basis.
