Donald J. Fritz

Donald J. Fritz, age 76, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on Saturday, February 5, 2011. He was born on March 17, 1934 in Pittsburgh, PA to Herman and Marie Fritz. Don was a proud veteran and had served in the United States Army. He worked as a mechanic at the University of Toledo for 18 ½ years before retiring. He was an avid photographer and especially enjoyed taking the photographs for weddings. Don never met a stranger who didn't quickly become his friend. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and struck up conversation with everyone he met, usually letting them know what the weather was going to be like. Don enjoyed camping and spending time with his family. He especially loved being a grandpa and adored his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his brothers, Andy, George, Richard, Edward and son, Jeffrey L. Cowan.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 40 years, Verlee; children James E. (Rebecca) Cowan, Debra (Ed) Zingg, Linda (Bill) Bruce; siblings, Audrey, Grace, Evelyn, Bob, David; grandchildren, Erica (Jason), Renee (Chaz), Mintia, Jessica (Michael), James (Anna), Connor, Andrew, Jordan, Bobby and 8 great-granddaughters.
The family will receive guests Tuesday from 2-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. (419-381-1900). Funeral Services will begin Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. His final resting place will be at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
