Donald J. Dunn, age 85, resident of Toledo, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, February 20, 2022, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 18, 1936, in Erie, Michigan, to the late Albert and Adeline (Vincent) Dunn.
Don worked as head of maintenance for Mason Consolidated Schools for 27 years, where he retired in 1997. He was an active member of the Eagles, since 1979 and raced cars from 1964 - 1984, where he had won several trophies. He was always one to tinker on things; he was a great woodworker, enjoyed doing yard work, and could do anything. A collector of all things, he collected antiques, clocks, and race cars. Don was a Michigan Wolverines fan and playing golf when he could. Most of all, family was his number one in his life. His wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, were his world and he will be truly missed by all.
The family would like to thank ProMedica Hospice nurses and two very special women, Jess Stiles and Kathy Ondrus, for their love, care, and compassion that they gave during Dons final days. Their gratitude will be forever remembered.
Those left to forever cherish his memory are his loving wife and childhood sweetheart, Shirley (Alford) Dunn, whom he married on January 26, 2000; children, Dawn (Tony) Mahn, Kelly Doll, Debbie LaPoint and Ted Kesler; grandchildren, Stephanie (Jason) Schuchard, Leighann (Rob) Schroyer, Rachel (Gene) Schoen, Traci Powers, Melissa Skidmore, Rebecca (Mike) Callender, Ryan (Julie) Hakeos, Dorian LaPoint, Kodi Kesler, Daniell Roberts, Jamie (Jacinto) Pecina, and Kerrie Kesler; and numerous great grandchildren, extended family, and close friends.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Fred Powers; son, Tim Kesler; and his six siblings.
Family and friends may visit at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 West Laskey Road, Toledo, Ohio 43623, on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, from 1:00 pm until 5:00 pm, where his memorial service will be at 5:00 pm, with Chaplain Bill Fink officiating.
