Donald E. "Don" Doty, age 83, of Toledo, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at home with loving family by his side. He was born on January 3, 1936 to Donald D. and Donna (Bundy) Doty in Toledo. Don worked at GM Powertrain for 30 years before retiring. He was a veteran of the Army National Reserves. Don was a longtime member of the Hopewell Wesleyan Church. He enjoyed going to the Senior Center at Friendship Park, and having his daily "meetings" with his morning breakfast club with the GM Powertrain retirees. Don liked to play cards, games and spend time with family at get-togethers. He was an excellent cook and baker which will be missed especially his cornbread casserole at Thanksgiving. Don's family was his priority and his smile, stubbornness, quick wit, and spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Patricia "Pat" Antoszewski, and Terry Doty; and brother-in-law, Chet Elliott. Don is survived by his children, Delores Harmes and Robert Doty; grandchildren, Vincent, Brett, and Donna; great-grandchildren, Athena and Greyson; sister, Sandra Elliott; nieces and nephews, Michelle (Lou) Cocchiarella, Dawn DeCoster, Dan Brisben, David Doty, Bonnie Doty, Wendy (Bob) Danner, and Troy (Amy) Elliott; former spouse and friend, Nancy Doty; and many other family members and dear friends.
A Memorial Service to Celebrate Don's life will be held Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Erie United Methodist Church, 1100 E. Samaria Rd., Erie, MI 48133. Newcomer – West Sylvania Chapel (419-392-9500) assisted the family with professional services.
Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Senior Center at Friendship Park.
