Donald E. Blattner

December 26, 1930 — April 4, 2018

Donald E. Blattner, age 87, passed away at home on April 4, 2018. He was born on December 26, 1930 in Toledo, Ohio to the late Alma and George Blattner.

Don retired from his career as a Selectric Repairman for IBM in 1981. Along with his full time position at IBM, Don also worked at UPS in the evenings. Don was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served in the Korean War. Don married the love of his life, Nancy (Sprague) Blattner, on September 14, 1974. They enjoyed 37 years of marriage until her passing in 2011. Don loved gardening on weekends and was particularly proud of his TV commercial for the Anderson's and the article published in Woman's Day magazine. He shared his love and knowledge of flowers and gardening by giving presentations at long-term care facilities. Don was very artistic, loved photographing his garden, painting and was known for his beautiful penmanship. He had a great sense of humor and loved making people laugh and smile, especially with his corny jokes. Don had a perpetually curious mind always researching topics in science and nature. Towards the end of his life, he was proud to be the "old man" beating out everyone else playing video games online.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Gary Blattner, Glenn (Gerri) Blattner, Penny (Noah) Horan and Tina Thornton; step-children, Jeff (Dawn) Greunke, Deanna Greunke and Robert Greunke; sister, June Workman; 12 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; many nephews and nieces. Don was preceded in death by his daughter, Amy Blattner; three brothers, Bob, Paul and Tom Blattner.

Don's family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Hospice who made Don's end of life so much richer.

A Celebration of Life for Don is pending family arrangements.
