Donald A. "Don" Achinger
Donald A. Achinger, age 69, of Toledo, passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at his home. He was born July 6, 1939 to David and Vivian (McGhee) Achinger in Toledo. Don was employed with Toledo Plate & Window Glass Company for 32 years. He also worked at Lourdes College for more than 10 years. But Don's most enjoyable job was working at the Toledo Zoo where he was affectionately known as "Choo-Choo Charlie", driving the trains for all the families to enjoy. Don was a loving husband, father and grandfather, enjoying the time he spent with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, David "Buzzy" Achinger. Don is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Jo Ann (Wilson) Achinger; daughters, Tammy (David) Halfpap and Sherry Mittendorf; grandchildren, Valarie; Loni; Marysa; Cody and Caiman; Sydney and Colton; 5 great grandchildren; brother, Joseph (Judy) Achinger; mother-in-law, Tommie Wilson; sister-in-law, Marge Achinger and many dear extended family members and friends.
The family will receive guests Friday from 2-7:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300) with Services beginning at 7:00 p.m.
