Domingo C. "Mingo" Soto

Domingo C. Soto “Mingo” age 92 of Toledo, Ohio passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on March 17, 2025. He was born in Laredo, Texas on May 12, 1932, to Epifano and Preciliana (Constante) Soto. He married his sweetheart, Amalia B. Garza on May 22, 1955.

Mingo was a proud member of the United States Army. As a soldier in the Communication field, he defended his country and family during the Korean War.

Mingo was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 5530.

Mingo moved his family from Laredo, Texas to Sylvania, Ohio where he managed a greenhouse on a privately owned farm. From there, he moved his family to Erie, Michigan where he started his career at City Auto Stamping. Mingo took on a second job to purchase his first family home and retired after 30 years.

Mingo was a big sports fan. He especially loved watching his favorite teams, the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions & the University of Michigan football team. He also enjoyed barbecuing, fishing and camping with his family and friends. His most memorable adventure was ice fishing in Alaska with his son, Mark.

Mingo will be remembered for his strong work ethic, kind heart, infectious smile, and his love to joke around. But mostly Mingo will be remembered for his love of his family, friends, his loving pet, Chico and everyone he came in contact with.

Survived by his children, Maria (Robert) Edwards, Ricardo (Angie) Soto, Hilda, (Bruce) Jarvis, Luis (Patricia) Soto, Marcos (Erica) Soto, and Cristoval (Shane Garver) Soto; grandchildren, Breana (Matt) Wrozek, Benjamin Edwards, Angel (Josh) McAfee, Rick (Melissa) Soto, Rebecca (Rojelio) Sanchez, Renee (Carlos) Torres, Bruce Jarvis Jr., Bianca (Stephen) Pahl, Alexander (Paige) Jarvis, Hailey (Josh Measles) Soto, Luis Soto Jr., Savannah (Josh) Mcle, Marcos Jr., Antonio, Christian, Carmela, Ava and Addison Soto. Also surviving are 16 great-grandchildren: 9 great-great grandchildren and brother and best friend, Roberto Soto.

Mingo was preceded in death by his beautiful bride, Amalia G. Soto, his brothers Juan and Fidencio Soto and sisters, Maria Guadalupe Arrendondo, Margarita Ballesteros, and Grandchildren Paige Wojcinski Jarvis, and David Van James Jarvis.

Family and friends will be welcomed at the Newcomer Funeral Home, (Northwest Chapel), 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo on Friday, March 21, 2025, from 2:00-8:00 PM. The Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church, 738 St. Clair St. Toledo, OH 43609.

Our family would like to give thanks to Care360 Hospice of Toledo for all the wonderful care dad received. We would also like to give special thanks to Nurse Meredith, Aid Sara, Massage Therapist Mindy, Father Juan Francisco Molina, Kelly for quickly coordinating the Military Ceremony that honored our dad, Kish Transportation, and Blessings in Disguise, The family would also like to give a very special thank you to Judy Szczublewski for all her help, love and support through Dad’stransition.
