Diana Louise Edwards

March 6, 1936 — August 24, 2017

Diana Louise Edwards (Alt), 81, surrounded by family, peacefully went to be with her Lord on August 24, 2017. Diana was born on March 6, 1936 in Illinois to Ray and Alma Alt. Her family relocated to Toledo, Ohio to open up Alt Sewing Machine in downtown Toledo. She graduated from Whitney Vocational School in 1954 and nine days later on June 19th she married her first love, Clarence. In their 63 years of marriage they raised 5 children and welcomed 20 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. They went on weekly date nights and enjoyed time out square dancing, bowling and dining out. They liked to travel and took trips to casinos, road trips with friends, cruises and yearly trips to visit her family in Wisconsin.

Diana's strong faith and relationship with the Lord were an important part of who she was. She prayed for her family every day and we were blessed and comforted in knowing that. Through the years, she was a member of St. Hedwig's, St. Catherine's and most recently St. John XXIII Catholic Churches. She was a member of the Marguerite d'Youville Grey Nuns Association at St. Vincent's Hospital. Diana retired from St. Vincent's Hospital at the age of 74. She began her career in the Housekeeping department and then became an LPN and worked in that position for 5 years. She then became the friendly face at the information desk where she was for 24 years.

That is just the start of who Diana was. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She was her family's biggest cheerleader and would be the first to help when needed. She was charitable, and always had a bag or two of groceries waiting to drop off to the food bank. She was a true friend to many. She had monthly lunch dates with her friends from high school and kept in touch with her friends she made at St. Vincent's. Her friendships were for life. To give you an idea of who she truly was, these are the words her family used to describe her; giving, caring, cute, welcoming, devoted, sweet, loyal, genuine, inspirational, loving, funny, warm hearted, feisty, sassy, strong, selfless, religious, comforting, beautiful, amazing, spunky, tough, thoughtful, saintly, and generous. Her family meant everything to her and she meant everything to her family. We will miss her laugh, hugs, strawberry jam and Christmas won't be the same without her cookies.

Left to honor and cherish her memory are her beloved husband of 63 years, Clarence Edwards; children, John, Jr. "CJ" (Heather) of DePere, Wisconsin, Bob (Maria) of Toledo, Judy (Al) Szczublewski, Sandra (Bob) Sutter, all of Bowling Green, and Laura (Max) Bickley of Walbridge; grandchildren, Chrissy (Scott), Kim (Scott), John (Brighton), Joshua (Crystal), Shanna (Thorr), Tommy, Billy, Breezy, Breana (Matt), Angel, Ben, Jason (Ashley), Jodi (Josh), Lindsey (Zac), Bobby (Becky), Kevin (Jamie), Amber (Chuck), Chad and Todd; 25 great-grandchildren; sisters, Peggy (Hank) Francois, Lorraine Buntrock, Patty (Jim) Dorn and Carol Edwards; brother, Ray Alt; brother-in-law, Roy Tomaszewski; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Del Alt; sister, Judy Tomaszewski; brothers-in-law, Richard Buntrock, Roman Stern and Jack Edwards; granddaughter, Theresa Krieg and best friend Betty Dewey.

The family will receive guests on Monday, August 28, 2017 from 2 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300) with a Vigil Service at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. A Mass of Resurrection will begin Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at St. John XXIII Catholic Church, 24250 N. Dixie Hwy., Perrysburg, OH 43551 with visitation from 10 – 11:00 a.m. at church.

Please consider a donation to one of her favorite charities; NWO Food Bank, Cherry St. Mission or Little Sisters of the Poor.

The family would like to thank Ohio Living Hospice, her nurse Jason, aide Kathy, social worker Nicole and Amey for the excellent care. Also, Sister Ann Mary for the care and compassion shown to Diana and her family through this difficult time.

Diana had a final request of her family, love each other and stay a close family.
