DeWitt E. Silverthorne, age 86, passed away Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo, where he was surrounded by his family. He was born May 1, 1926 to Louis and Lillian (Schramm) Silverthorne in Milan, Michigan.
Preceding him in death was his beloved wife of 61 years, Irene M. Silverthorne.
DeWitt is survived by his daughters, Linda (Raymond) Kucalaba and Nanc(Michael) Melms; sons, Gary Silverthorne and Alan Silverthorne; nine grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; brothers, Harold and Kenneth Silverthorne and sister, Doris Mae Roberts.
Following high school graduation, DeWitt enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during WWII. He retired from The A & P Tea Co. after nearly 30 years of service. DeWitt was a member of The Lutheran Church of Our Saviour where he sang in the church choir and taught Sunday school for many years. Friends will remember him for his wonderful sense of humor that would brighten any day.
The family will receive guests on Thursday, July 5, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at The Lutheran Church of Our Saviour, 2820 W. Alexis Rd., Toledo, Ohio. Funeral Services will begin in the church on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.
DeWitt's family would like to especially thank the staff at Hospice of Northwest Ohio for the diligent care they provided him in his last days.
