Dennis D. Stokes, age 78, of Ottawa Lake, Michigan, passed away Sunday, February 26th, 2006 in Flower Hospital. He was born January 1, 1928 to Earl and Ernestine (Mays) Stokes in Little Hocking, Ohio. Dennis was a U.S. Navy veteran. Before entering the Navy, Dennis worked for the former Willys Overland. After his military service he married his wife, Naomi in 1947. For five years, he was a police officer in Florida. After moving back to the Toledo area, Dennis went on to work for 22 years with the former General Tire & Rubber Company before retiring. Dennis was a fun loving man who enjoyed fishing, camping and cookouts with his grandkids and family.
In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra Miller and brothers, Robert and Gary Stokes. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Naomi J. (Seger) Stokes; sons, William Stokes of TX; James (Pat) Stokes of Toledo and Rick Stokes of Ottawa Lake, MI; daughter, Patricia Miley of Northwood; grandchildren, Darlene and Lou Nole; Teresa and Kyle Durkee; Michelle and Eric Miller; Todd; Alisha and Heather Stokes; Carl; Cindy and Amy Miley; John (Kelly) Hawkins and Lynn Chaney; 16 great grandchildren and brother, Jack Stokes.
The family will receive guests Tuesday from 2-8:00 and Wednesday from 9-12:00 p.m. in the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419)473-0300. Funeral Services will begin Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. Officiating will be Pastor Bruce Snyder.
