Dennis J.A. Haas

Dennis J.A. Haas, age 75, joined his Savior in Heaven on February 25, 2016. He was born on August 9, 1940 to the late Olga and Louis Haas in Toledo, Ohio.
Dennis attended Burroughs Elementary School and Libby High School graduating in 1958. He entered the US Army at age 17; service life was spent at Ft. Knox, Ft Ord and 2 years in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1961. On his return to the US, Dennis was employed at Toledo Trust and Connecticut Mutual. He married Carol Fleming on November 2, 1962. In faith he changed careers opening his own bakery. Through hard work, determination and faith in Divine Providence, he turned a small vacant, former hat block building, into a working doughnut shop. The Doughnook opened in 1979 on Superior St. From that small beginning, the donut business became a full line bakery. In 1988, 2306 Starr Ave became home to Haas Bakery.
Dennis was a member of Bethel Assembly of God and faithfully served his Lord Jesus Christ. Dennis enjoyed the company of his wife, family, fishing, euchre, driving, mushroom hunting, the History and Military Channels. His favorite pastime was fishing off the dock at Bonita Beach and driving highways and back roads.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 53 years, Carol; son, Andrew (Dawn); daughter, Christine (Mike) Okapal; grandchildren, Holly (Brandon), Katie, Nate, Matthew; sister, Sharon Lamour and sister-in-law, Linda Haas. Also many other dear family members and close friends. In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded by brothers, Mark and Jan.
The family will receive guests on Sunday, February 28, 2016 from 3-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo (419-381-1900). The Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at Bethel Assembly of God, 665 W. Indiana Ave., Perrysburg. There will be visitation held at the church from 10-11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Highland Memory Gardens.
