Dennis Downey, age 69, of Toledo, surrendered to Jesus, Tuesday, January 4th, 2011. He was born one of triplets on December 6th, 1941. The son of George and Henrietta (Nelson) Downey, Jr. Dennis took his place in a very loving family.
As a teenager, he formed his own band known as "Little Denny and the Torqueas". Dennis was the singer and lead guitarist. He played at many weddings and night clubs. Dennis also cut a record which he wrote all the songs for.
As Dennis decided on what he wanted to do as a career, he had a choice to go into Pattern Making or to become a Pro Golfer. Dennis chose to become a Pattern Maker, following in his father and brother's footsteps. He went on to start his own business, "Arrow Pattern" which he successfully ran until his health declined just last month. Like his father and brother, Dennis was an excellent Pattern Maker.
Dennis was very talented and versatile. He loved baseball and played all 4 years on his high school team. Dennis also wrestled in high school and qualified for the State Championship during his senior year at Rogers High School. At the age of 14 Dennis started to caddy at Inverness Country Club and was forever bitten by the golf bug. He was very proud of hitting a "hole-in-one" on May 23rd, 1987.
Dennis was one of the funniest guys you would ever meet. He was quick witted and kept his family and friends laughing for hours with his many jokes.
He may have been small in stature, but his heart was as big as the world. He was kind, gentle and loving to everyone. Dennis cherished his family and friends and he loved his little pug dogs. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend. Dennis is leaving a great big hole in this world that he shared with us.
His life and blessings will never be forgotten by his loving wife, Deborah A. (Adams) Downey; daughter, Kelly (John) Gates; son, Daron Downey; stepchildren, Michael and Kevin (Jodie) Crowl; brothers, George (Marlene) and Michael (Nancy) Downey, his triplet sister, Deane (David) Luce; 6 grandchildren; 1 step great grandchild and many nieces and nephews; his friend and co-worker, Eric and many dear friends too numerous to mention. Dennis was preceded in death by his father, George Jr.; brother, Eddie and triplet sister, Diane Barnes.
